The Bridge Program for Childhood Educators is a structured online qualification and guidance program for internationally trained early childhood educators who want to work in Germany long term. It combines German language development, job-market preparation, and guidance through professional recognition (Anerkennung) or vocational apprenticeship (Ausbildung) into one clear pathway — from your current starting point to employment in a German Kita.

The Bridge Program supports you step by step:

• building the German language level required for work in a childhood education facility
• understanding how childhood education works in Germany
• preparing applications, interviews, and professional self-presentations

• gaining visibility with employers through formats such as Meet & Match and ProfiZentrale

A Kita (Kindertagesstätte) is a German early childhood education and care facility for children from 0 to 12 years. It can include different forms of care: Krippe (0–3 years), Kindergarten (3–6 years), and Hort (6–12 years). Kitas combine care, education, and social development and are a central part of Germany’s childcare system

No. The Bridge Program is a paid qualification and support program. 

The total fees depend on your profession, chosen track, and the estimated duration of your timeline. These are evaluated at application through submission of available documents and our language proficiency or learning readiness assessment. 
Results are transparently documented in your personal Bridge Program Timeline together with the estimated cost of external fees such as additional learning materials, official exams and procedures. 

Scholarships or discounts may be available, depending on the program path and individual eligibility.

For early childhood educators, the application and assessment is free of charge. You only pay the program fees when you enrol in the Bridge Program.

For other professions, the application and assessment costs €29, which is deductible from the program fees upon enrolment.   

The Bridge Program for Childhood Educators is tailored specifically to early childhood professionals and includes recognition guidance and sector-specific job preparation. German courses are offered until professional level (B2) and may include drafting the expert report (Fachbericht) required to achieve full professional recognition.

The Bridge Program for Job Seekers is broader and supports professionals from different fields with German exams and job applications, without recognition-specific components. German courses in this program are only up to intermediate level (B1), which is the current minimum requirement for permanent residence in Germany.

Anerkennung is for participants who already hold a relevant professional qualification and work experience from abroad equivalent to German professions such as "Erzieher:in" (nursery teacher) or Kindheitspädagog:in (early years educator) and want it recognized in Germany.

Ausbildung is for participants whose qualifications are not eligible for professional recognition in childhood education and need to complete a German vocational apprenticeship to become a state-recognized childhood educator, i.e. Erzieher:in or Sozialpädagog:in.

The Bridge Program helps assess which path is realistic and prepares participants accordingly.

Both tracks follow the same standards and content. The difference lies in pace and structure.

The Intensive Track is for participants who want to progress as quickly as possible and can commit regular time. It offers a faster pace, clearer milestones, and more structure.

The Flexi Track is for participants who need more flexibility due to work or personal responsibilities. It allows a slower, adjustable pace while staying in the program.

A switch between tracks is possible if circumstances change.

This depends on your qualification, professional experience, and the recognition rules in the relevant federal state. We make a preliminary review as part of the application process. While admission does not guarantee positive outcomes, the Bridge Program includes guidance to support you through the steps and, if necessary, help you find realistic alternatives.

Those already in Germany still benefit from the Bridge Program, especially if they need exam preparation, recognition guidance, or structured support with applications and interviews.

Financial assistance are reserved for seasoned early childhood education professionals who aim for professional recognition and are committed to completing the Bridge Program as fast as possible.

To be eligible, applicants should have:

• a completed bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, social work, or a related field
• at least 3 years of full-time professional experience with children aged 0–12
• proven international communication skills
• commitment to finishing the Bridge Program within the agreed timeline

Our application includes assessment of your eligibility for a financial assistance. 
Program funding is limited and not guaranteed.

Financial assistance typically covers part of the Bridge Program fee. It does not cover official exam fees, recognition fees, or living costs.

The Bridge Program does not guarantee job offers, visas, or recognition decisions. These depend on employers and authorities.

The Bridge Program is designed to create strong conditions for success.

In our experience, participants who follow the program structure, meet legal and documentary requirements on time, and actively engage with job-training components typically receive interview invitations and job offers by the time they complete the Bridge Program.

Professional communication, reliability, and trustworthiness play a key role. These skills are an integral part of the Bridge Program’s job-training courses.

You are not excluded. Your learning path may be adjusted, and you can continue preparing until you are ready to pass.

Recognition decisions are made by authorities in the relevant federal state (Bundesland). If recognition is delayed or denied, you will receive guidance on alternative pathways and next steps.

Meet & Match is an online networking event where Bridge Program participants and graduates meet Kita representatives in a supportive and professional setting. Participants introduce their background and present a project related to early childhood education — in German.

Meet & Match helps participants practice professional self-presentation, gain early employer visibility, and build confidence before coming to Germany. It is not a job interview, but a guided first step.

A student visa is intended for individuals who plan to pursue a university degree at a recognized higher education institution. The Bridge Program does not lead to a university degree and is delivered primarily online, without in-person requirements that would justify entry into Germany on a student visa.
